E-commerce Backend
IN PROGRESSGo microservices over gRPC: three of five planned services are built and tested.
Personal project · Dec 2025 – Jan 2026 · 64 commits
THE PROBLEM
Practise service boundaries, gRPC and per-service testing by building the pieces of an online store.
HOW IT WORKS
- Account (9 RPCs, bcrypt and JWT), catalog and order services, each with its own PostgreSQL schema and migrations.
- Each service exposes Prometheus metrics through a gRPC interceptor.
ENGINEERING EVIDENCE
- About 109 test functions, including Testcontainers PostgreSQL integration tests, and CI that runs tests with the race detector.
- The plan for the remaining services is written down. ROADMAP.md ↗
WHAT ISN'T DONE
- Payment, notification, the GraphQL gateway, Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch and Kubernetes are planned, not built.
- The order service trusts client-supplied prices instead of checking the catalog.
STACK
- Go
- gRPC
- PostgreSQL
- Prometheus
- Docker
- Testcontainers
